Abstract
- A perennial population of Ringed Bush-crickets (Rhacocleis annulata Fieber, 1853) has been identified at Rocher de Cheffois (Vendée) following repeated observations of the species over two consecutive years (2022 and 2023). The use of an ultrasonic detector in year n+1, following the discovery of the first isolated individuals, made it possible to specify the size of the population and its distribution on the site. The habitats occupied by the species are mainly thermophilous thickets (Ulex europaeus) at the foot of the northern face of the former quarry, as well as pteridonia and brambles on the southern edge of the woodland. Native to the central Mediterranean basin, this allochthonous species was undoubtedly introduced by passive transport linked to plant trade, in connection here with a large tree nursery and horticultural plots adjoining the site. Its rapid colonization and expansion in western France, and more widely in Europe, makes it a potentially invasive species that warrants special attention and monitoring. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
