Abstract

This article provides information on construction economics, specifically focusing on cost indexes, wages, and materials prices. The Construction Cost Index has seen an annual increase of 1% and a monthly increase of 0.1%. The Building Cost Index has experienced an annual increase of 1.9% and a monthly increase of 0.1%. The Materials Cost Index has shown a monthly increase of 0.2% and an annual increase of 4.5%. The article also discusses the dollar value of total construction put-in-place, which had a monthly decrease of 0.1% in May but was 6.4% higher than the previous year. Plywood prices decreased by 0.4% in May, while prices for pine 2x4s were down 11% from July 2023. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is publishing producer price index numbers for lumber products as of April 2019. It is important to note that the prices listed for different cities are not meant to be the prevailing prices, as they can be volatile and may include estimates. Therefore, the data should be used to analyze national trends rather than comparing prices between locations. The table provided in the article displays prices for various lumber products in different cities, with the + or - symbols indicating whether the price has risen or fallen since the previous report.
