Abstract
- The article discusses the challenges faced by clinicians in providing care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Despite the availability of new medications and society guidelines, clinicians often encounter difficulties due to prior authorization (PA) requirements imposed by insurance companies. The study highlights the misalignment between society guidelines and insurance algorithms for medication use, leading to delays in treatment and potential negative outcomes for patients. The authors suggest that improved communication, collaboration between specialty societies and health plans, and government intervention may be necessary to address these issues and improve patient care.
