Abstract

Lauren Pharr, a Ph.D. candidate at North Carolina State University, is studying the effects of climate change on red-cockaded woodpeckers. As a Black woman in the field, she has noticed a lack of support for marginalized individuals and has experienced hostile situations. In response, Pharr co-founded Field Inclusive, a nonprofit that provides trainings to help marginalized biologists and researchers navigate potentially dangerous situations. She is also involved in science communication efforts to highlight wildlife careers and inspire diversity in the field. [Extracted from the article]
