Abstract

In 2023, the Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh, India experienced a severe rainfall-induced landslide disaster. The excessive rainfall triggered numerous landslides, causing significant economic losses and the loss of 367 lives. The region's geological conditions, weathered rocks, and rugged topography contribute to slope instability and increase the likelihood of landslides. This study aims to provide insights into the types of landslides triggered and the resulting damage, in order to enhance understanding and inform future risk mitigation efforts.
