Abstract

This document is a letter published in the journal Intensive Care Medicine. The authors conducted a study to evaluate the performance of a predictive survival model called the Survival after VA-ECMO (SAVE) score in immunocompromised patients with cardiogenic shock who were undergoing veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO). The study found that the SAVE score had limited discriminatory power and calibration, and did not outperform other intensive care unit (ICU) severity scores in predicting 90-day survival in this specific population. The authors suggest that the SAVE score should be recalibrated to include immunocompromised status and its underlying causes. [Extracted from the article]
