Abstract

Edge computing has emerged as a transformative paradigm in the world of computing, offering promising solutions to the ever-increasing demand for low-latency, high-performance, and data-intensive applications. This paper presents a comprehensive review of edge computing technologies, delving into its architecture, various applications, challenges, and future perspectives. The study includes a meticulous analysis of seven seminal papers in the field, providing insights from leading researchers. We discuss the foundational aspects of edge computing, examining its architecture, which encompasses edge devices, edge nodes, and the cloud, and elucidate the critical role it plays in optimizing data processing and reducing network congestion. Furthermore, we investigate numerous applications across multiple domains, including IoT, autonomous automobiles, healthcare, as well as industrial automation, highlighting how edge computing is revolutionizing these sectors. Nevertheless, we also address the challenges and limitations associated with edge computing, including security, scalability, and resource constraints. Looking ahead, we delve into the future perspectives of edge computing, discussing potential advancements, research directions, and the role of emerging technologies like 5G and AI in shaping its trajectory. In conclusion, this paper offers a comprehensive understanding of edge computing technologies, their current status, and the exciting possibilities they hold for the future of computing.
