Abstract

Modulus of elasticity of recycled concrete Recycled concrete can differ in hardened concrete properties from concrete only with natural aggregate. For this reason, when ordering recycled concrete, Switzerland requires the specification of an E‐modulus class. The modulus of elasticity must be determined in accordance with SN EN 12390‐13, i. e. on test specimens that are stored under water. Therefore, the question arose as to whether the modulus of elasticity determined on water‐saturated test specimens is meaningful for structural members with dry exposure conditions. For this reason, investigations were carried out on recycled concrete with recycled aggregates made from crushed concrete and from mixed granulate. For this purpose, test specimens were stored under water until the test was carried out and further specimens were dried before the test. It was shown that the modulus of elasticity is higher with water storage than after dry storage, but the differences are not very large. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
