Abstract
- The article discusses the effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists on blood pressure. GLP-1 receptor agonists have been shown to have cardiovascular and renal protective effects, independent of their glucose-lowering properties. While these drugs have been found to reduce systolic blood pressure in hypertensive individuals, they have little effect on diastolic blood pressure or normotensive individuals. The article also highlights the importance of accurately measuring blood pressure, including postprandial blood pressure, and suggests that further research is needed to optimize the assessment of the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists on blood pressure.
