Breast cancer treatment has undergone significant changes over the last few decades. The surgical techniques used today are increasingly improved to promote the best possible result, according to specific indications for each patient. Conservative surgeries are considered the standard treatment for early-stage breast cancer as they offer several benefits, such as a lower risk of complications and better aesthetic results. With the improvement in the primary breast cancer screening system, the number of patients eligible for conservative treatment is increasing, however, a series of factors deserve attention in therapeutic planning for each case. This study provides an overview of the basic foundations of surgical treatment for breast carcinoma in order to demonstrate the favorable results achieved with conservative surgery when well indicated.
