Abstract

A 76-year-old man developed acute eosinophilic pneumonia (AEP) and eosinophilic pleural effusion (EPE) while being treated with daptomycin for a penile implant infection. Despite receiving broad-spectrum antibiotics, his condition worsened with symptoms including leukocytosis, fevers, and hypoxemia. Diagnostic tests confirmed the presence of eosinophils in his bronchoalveolar lavage and pleural effusion, and other infectious causes were ruled out. Treatment with methylprednisolone and prednisone resulted in near complete resolution of the symptoms. [Extracted from the article]
