Abstract

Objective. The present methodological research aimed to validate the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) in a sample of Mexican adolescents through the analysis of its psychometric properties. Methodology. The validation was carried out with a non-random sample of 365 students from Higher Secondary Education Institutions in the north and south of the State of Sonora, Mexico; the participation percentages were 37 % males (n = 135) and 63 % females (n = 230), with an age range between 14 and 18 years (M = 15.88; SD = 0.796). Results. Exploratory factor analysis yielded two models, a bifactor model of positive academic resilience (fourteen items) and a unidimensional model of negative academic resilience (six items). Goodness-of-fit indices showed adequate Rasch, confirmatory factor analysis and invariance scores. Conclusions. The two-model solution of the ARS-30 is found to be valid and reliable for the measurement of academic resilience in Mexican adolescent students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
