Abstract

Translation abstract Novel 3D Reinforcements for Concrete Structures – Part 1: Background, Development, and PotentialFacing the challenges in the construction industry, especially the pursuit of sustainability and material efficiency, this article explores the development and potential of an innovative three‐dimensional (3D) and fully automated carbon fiber reinforcement structure, known as “Mesh”. This advanced method of reinforcement offers a versatile and resource‐efficient alternative to conventional steel reinforcement and an expansion of currently used carbon grids/elements. The Mesh is characterized by its adaptability to various shapes and load paths, significantly reducing the need for concrete and reinforcement, thereby enhancing the longevity and ecological footprint of construction projects. The development of the Mesh, from initial exploratory tests to its current status, as well as possible applications, including its potential as shear, surface, split tension, or helical reinforcement, especially in prestressed components, are discussed. This contribution highlights the Mesh′s contribution to the advancement of reinforcement technology in concrete construction and is part 1 of a multi‐part publication series. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
