Abstract

In Ecuador and Colombia there is a belt of crystalline rocks of the Jurassic age, in which discoveries of copper porphyry-type mineral deposits have been made during the last decades. The reason for carrying out the present study is in the northern part of the Putumayo department, a prospective area for the discovery of porphyry-type mineral deposits of Cu-Mo, like Mocoa. For the identification of geochemical anomalies from the regional exploration stage, geostatistical modeling is used through the conditioned turning bands simulation tool, using data from 443 fine current active sediment samples, taken in basins within the study area draining mainly Jurassic age rocks. The automatic cartography of turning bands carried out for each of the elements under study identified four anomalies of regional importance, corresponding to geochemical signatures in the identification of copper porphyry systems on the surface.
