The article discusses research which determined differences in clinical outcomes, hospital costs and related hospital readmissions among children with acute hematogenous osteomyelitis on the basis of timing of surgical procedures. The study identified interventional radiology and bedside aspiration procedures. It evaluated outcomes across patient groups by age, race, ethnicity, payer status, admission season, critical illness and emergency department visit without admission.
