Nuevas aportaciones arqueológicas en torno a la evolución urbana Medieval del Pueblo Viejo de Belchite (Zaragoza).

Like many Hispanic cities, the origin of Belchite has so far been approached from an exclusively documentary perspective, which in our case dates, uncertainly, between the 8th and 9th centuries, the settlement of a Berber group next to the old Roman canals. from the Almonacid dam. Our archaeological interventions in 2022 and 2023, through the study of surface material, a survey in Plaza del Salvador, and the analysis of unpublished materials, lead us to propose new lines of work, such as the Hispano-Roman origin of the town, the peripheral location of the Salvador neighborhood in the Medieval Belchite, and the confirmation of the establishment of San Roque as a Mudéjar neighborhood. The identification of two structures of great interest for the urban debate is also provided, such as the location of the castle and the main synagogue of the city. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
