Abstract

This article examines the emergence of film culture in Tripura, Northeast India, with a focus on Kokborok and Bengali-language films and music videos. These productions reflect the sociopolitical context of Tripura and serve as expressions of identity, resistance, and hybridity. The article discusses the challenges faced by filmmakers in Tripura, the role of technology in shaping the industry, and the cultural significance of these films. It also explores the historical and demographic context of Tripura and the cultural connections between Bengali-speaking communities across regions and nations. The article argues for the importance of studying films in minor Indian languages to address cultural exclusion and offer alternative perspectives on Indian cinema. [Extracted from the article]
