Abstract
- A study published in Human Reproduction explores the role of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in ovarian aging and its impact on female fertility. The study found evidence of oxidative damage in oocytes of advanced maternal age, suggesting that oxidative stress may play an early role in the decline of oocyte quality and fertility. The authors also examined cellular and molecular pathways affected by oxidative stress and aging, as well as potential therapeutic strategies to mitigate mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in oocytes of advanced maternal age. However, further research is needed to develop effective treatments for mitochondrial dysfunctions and infertility related to oxidative stress in oocytes. [Extracted from the article]
