Abstract
- This article provides a detailed account of Guthrie McClintic's life and career as a producer and director. It emphasizes his early struggles and his passion for theater, which led him to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. McClintic and his wife, Katharine Cornell, formed a successful production company and achieved great success with their first collaboration, "The Barretts of Wimpole Street." The article also highlights their decision to tour the production during the Great Depression and the challenges they faced. Additionally, it recounts the legendary story of a theater troupe's journey to Seattle during a severe rainstorm in December 1933, where they encountered numerous delays and obstacles but ultimately performed to a patient and appreciative audience on Christmas night.
