Elderly patients with functional constipation generally have mental and psychological disorders, especially the prevalence of anxiety and depression disorders is much higher than that of normal population. Anxiety and depression can affect gastrointestinal motility and sensation by affecting brain-gut axis. enteric nervous system, hormone neurotransmitters and intestinal flora, leading to functional constipation. The author reviewed the research on the comorbidity of functional constipation and anxiety and depression in the elderly at home and abroad and discussed the application of psychosomatic integration model in clinical practice in order to provide a reference for improving the clinical treatment practice of functional constipation in the elderly.
