Abstract
- This article presents a case study of a 20-year-old female patient with autoimmune necrotic myositis who exhibited thrombocytopenia, or a low platelet count. The study observed that leukocytes, specifically neutrophils and monocytes, were engulfing platelets, leading to increased complexity within the cells. This phenomenon, known as EDTA-dependent pseudothrombocytopenia (EDTA-PTCP), is rare and is believed to be induced by autoantibodies and enhanced phagocytosis of abnormally active leukocytes. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the underlying causes of thrombocytopenia in autoimmune disease patients and have implications for assessing leukocyte immune function.
