Abstract

This paper intends to elaborately describe the Chaghatai manuscripts at the library of the Uzbek Zawiya in Jerusalem. The images of the manuscripts digitalized by the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library are used for this purpose. All the data based on the photos are compared with the information provided by both the printed and digital catalogs prepared for the manuscripts. Identified deficiencies have been completed and errors have been corrected. This paper consists of an introduction and three main chapters. Aspects making Jerusalem sacred for Muslims, the fact that Jerusalem has been a holy route for Muslim dervishes and pilgrims throughout history, and the lodges and quarters built in this city during the reign of the Ottomans for dervishes and pilgrims who came from around the Muslim world, particularly Central Asia, are stated in the introduction. The location, architecture, services, and history of the Uzbek Zawiya, which was one of the destinations of visitors who transported various cultural goods from their homeland to Jerusalem, are mentioned in the first chapter. The library of the zawiya, comprised of manuscripts transported here from different Islamic areas, is expressed in the second chapter. The Chagatai manuscripts at the library are described in the third chapter. Manuscripts, including Chagatai texts, are elaborately explained in every way, and transcribed texts taken from samples of the manuscripts are presented in the last chapter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
