Abstract
- The study aimed to develop, characterize, and evaluate matrix-type oral bi-layered mucoadhesive hydrogel membrane patches for the intestinal delivery of gliclazide. Surface pH, drug content, thickness, folding endurance, moisture content, water vapor transmission rate, and swellability of hydrogel membrane patches were found satisfactory. These patches were characterized by SEM, DSC, and FT-IR spectroscopy. In-vitro gliclazide release from these hydrogel membrane patches was sustained over 8 h. Ex-vivo study demonstrated good mucoadhesion of these hydrogel membrane patches. Therefore, these matrix-type oral bi-layered mucoadhesive-natured PNIPAM-co-MM/chitosan made-hydrogel membrane patches for intestinal delivery of gliclazide can be effectively used in type-II diabetes mellitus management.
