The second part of the article "The full potential of multifunctional ingredients" deals with the optimization of the protective effect of cosmetic ingredients against microbes. Two additional factors are considered: chelating agents and water activity. The results of the microbial contamination tests show that multifunctional ingredients have the potential to provide effective protection systems for cosmetic products. Contamination tests were conducted with an O/W emulsion. The effect of different barriers was examined, and multifunctional ingredients proved to be effective barriers. The use of chelating agents can enhance the performance of multifunctional ingredients, and reduced water activity can enhance the effect of these ingredients. [Extracted from the article]
