Abstract

Most menstruating people have probably experienced mood swings or episodes of irritability at the end of their menstrual cycle. However, for 2 to 5% of them, these symptoms are more pronounced, handicapping their daily lives. They are similar to severe depression that may contain suicidal ideation. This is what is now known as premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This article aims to inform the general practitioner about this new diagnosis built between the notions of disease mongering, gender discrimination and under-medicalization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
