Erva Brava, a work by the Brazilian writer and journalist Paulliny Tort, published by Fósforo in 2021, is at the same time a portrait of a region and a time not so far from the empirical reality of the reader. Although representing contemporary clippings of the common problems to the interior universe — such as the concentration of large estates, poor working conditions, the precariousness of public policies, and the destruction of the environment —, the narratives explore issues that go beyond the regional sphere: the process of modernization and the constant tension between tradition and modernity; themes to be explored in this paper.
