Abstract

Low fertility in Spain nowadays, and since some time ago, represents one of the most important public issues, although it is not equally distributed within the country and does not happen in a homogeneous way among social groups. This article studies, employing the 2011 census, the regional differences over the probability of Spanish women of increasing their offspring according to the educational gradient, at the autonomous community's level. To achieve that, parity progression ratios of women whose fecundity period is done are analyzed, trying to figure out the effect of educational gradient over the recent parity progression, employing Poisson multivariate models. It is observed that, according to the individual premise that the higher the educational attainment, the less the chance of experiencing a parity transition, the regional differences in terms of fertility will vary, mainly, because of the different proportion of educational level at every academic stage.
