Abstract

This article is a foreword for a special issue of Cognitive Semiotics dedicated to the memory of Göran Sonesson, a prominent researcher in semiotics and cognitive semiotics. The issue includes a diverse range of contributions from various authors who have collaborated with Sonesson or worked with him for many years. The articles cover topics such as the phenomenology of meaning, the role of mimesis in human cognition, the semiotics of mirror images, and the importance of developing a more stereoscopic semiotics. The contributors also explore subjects like cultural semiotics, visual thinking in design, and the concept of semiotic development in child development. The article acknowledges the reviewers who helped make the issue possible and concludes by noting that Sonesson's influence will continue to be seen in future publications.
