Abstract

This article examines the afterlives of knowledge infrastructures in the context of international climate policy, specifically the transition from the Kyoto Protocol to the Paris Agreement. The authors argue that understanding the temporal aspects of knowledge infrastructure is crucial for understanding its ongoing influence and power dynamics. The article focuses on the role of knowledge infrastructures in carbon offsetting, highlighting how they enable offsets to be traded as commodities. It also discusses the political interests that support carbon offsetting and raises questions about the fairness and sustainability of these mechanisms. The text emphasizes the importance of considering the afterlives of knowledge infrastructures and the potential for repurposing them to create more equitable futures. [Extracted from the article]
