Abstract

New research is uncovering the unexpected benefits of weight-loss drugs like semaglutide, which can also have positive effects on mental health. These drugs, such as Ozempic and Wegovy, mimic a gut hormone that is released after eating and have been primarily used to treat diabetes and obesity. However, studies suggest that they could also be repurposed to treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and certain eating disorders. These drugs may have direct effects on the brain, including increasing blood flow, protecting nerve cells, reducing inflammation, and improving cognitive function. While there are potential benefits, further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms and potential risks associated with these drugs. [Extracted from the article]
