Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine how comfortable people in Generation Z are with the operating systems on iOS and Android smart devices, and then compare those levels. Generation Z consists of those born between 1996 and 2010. They have been using technology since they were very young. This research was conducted because the operating systems of smart devices continue to improve, which has a significant impact on their usability. However, there is little research comparing iOS with Android, particularly among Generation Z. Generation Z is able to use smartphones to support a multitude of activities, whether in the use for learning, communicating, and being able to access digital-based content. Aside from the positive impacts of smartphones, Generation Z is also susceptible to the negative impacts of smartphone dependence, such as sleep disturbances and addiction (Rahma et al., 2024). The core themes of this research are usability and reliability. The basic concept that drives this research is usability, which refers to how easy and enjoyable it is for users to utilise the operating system on smart devices. This research uses an internet survey with questionnaires filled out by members of Generation Z, the purpose of this survey is to find out how comfortable Generation Z is in using iOS and Android. Furthermore, this study can help operating system developers to continuously improve the user experience of operating systems and prioritise the demands of an increasingly technologically sophisticated demographic.
