Abstract

This article examines the similarities and differences between privations and accidental forms in the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. It argues that both can be understood through the existential quantifier, but Aquinas emphasizes the importance of distinguishing their modes of existence. Privations, such as blindness, are considered beings because they are involved in true propositions, even though they lack essence and do not exist in reality. Accidental forms, on the other hand, exist in individual substances. The article suggests that a pluralist approach to existence is necessary to fully understand Aquinas's philosophy regarding privations and accidental forms. [Extracted from the article]
