Abstract

Hypertension is a global health problem that requires special attention in relation to it as one of the causes of death in both developed and developing countries. The results of the 2018 Riskesdas reported that the prevalence of hypertension in people agedā‰„18 years in Indonesia was 34.1%. Complications of hypertension are atherosclerotic, stroke, chronic kidney disease which can reduce the quality of life and even death, so patients must continue to take antihypertensive drugs to keep blood pressure under control. Thus, this research aimed to examine the relationship between the patient's level of knowledge and the level of adherence to taking anti-hypertensive drugs. Analytic Observational with a cross-sectional approach was used in this study. There were 220 respondents as the sample of the study. The knowledge variable was measured by the Hypertension Knowledge Level Stage Query with modification, the variable of medication adherence was measured by the modified Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS). Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using chi square, the level of correlation was measured by the gamma hypothesis correlation test on SPSS 20 software. The study found the most frequency distribution, namely the age of 50 - 75 years (94%), female gender (58.9%)., high school education (28.2%), job not working (52.5%), blood pressure category stage 1 hypertension (68.8%) and long suffering from hypertension <5 years (51%). Most of the respondents have high knowledge (82.2%) and high adherence to taking medication (74.3%). Analysis of chi square p=0.00 (<0.005) which is significant. Gamma correlation test r=+ 0.977, which means that the relationship is directly proportional to the correlation value close to perfect / very strong. There is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge of the respondents and the level of adherence to taking anti-hypertensive drugs. The higher the level of knowledge, the higher the level of medication adherence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
