Abstract
- In the recent years a novel system referred as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) has evolved to provide safety and security in transportation system. In ITS, the main challenge for researchers and industrial communities, was to enhance the transportation efficiency. To support applications of ITS, a novel infrastructure termed as Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANETs) have grown out which is a special subclass of Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANETs). VANETs differs itself with MANETs in terms of its unique characteristics such as high mobility of vehicles and its dynamic network topology. Therefore, protocols set for MANETs are not applicable for VANETs. To maintain communication among vehicles and with fixed infrastructure along the road side, various mobility management schemes are presented in literature. A standard architecture for occurrence of Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure communication in VANETs is established by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) referred as Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE). This paper illustrates basic introductory part of the Mobility Management in different vehicular scenarios and Relay Vehicle selection topology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
