Abstract
- An 87-year-old man experienced delirium and falls while being treated with clobazam, levetiracetam, and valproic acid for presumed focal epilepsy. Despite escalating his antiseizure medications, he continued to have events in the hospital. After weaning off clobazam and reducing valproic acid, his gait and cognition improved. Further investigations revealed a correct diagnosis of functional seizures, and his valproic acid and levetiracetam were discontinued. He was offered a referral to psychology but chose to practice sensory grounding techniques first. [Extracted from the article]
