Abstract

This letter, published in the Annals of Hematology, reports on a case of an elderly patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and pleural effusion who was successfully treated with acalabrutinib, a second-generation Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor. The patient had no significant medical history and was initially monitored without treatment. However, when she developed exertional dyspnea and pleural effusion, acalabrutinib was initiated, leading to gradual improvement and eventual resolution of the effusion. This case highlights the potential efficacy of acalabrutinib in treating CLL with pleural effusion and suggests that BTK inhibitors may have a role in managing extramedullary lesions in CLL.
