Abstract

The article discusses the use of prone positioning (PP) during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The authors explain that PP has been shown to improve oxygenation and respiratory mechanics in ARDS patients, and it may also help mitigate the risk of ventilator-induced lung injury. However, the evidence regarding the routine application of PP during ECMO is conflicting, and more research is needed. The authors conclude that while waiting for more conclusive data, PP remains a promising treatment option for ARDS patients in specialized ECMO centers. [Extracted from the article]
