Abstract

Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a growing practice in Malaysia that harnesses the human-animal bond for psychological therapeutic interventions. Interactions with therapy animals have been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD, while promoting relaxation and improving physical health. AAT is slowly gaining ground in Malaysia, with successful programs implemented in children's healthcare, mental healthcare for differently abled children, and therapy for the elderly and orphans. However, AAT still faces challenges and stigmas, including legal and ethical considerations, cultural attitudes towards animals, and the need for more research and documentation. Efforts to address misconceptions and build trust and acceptance among communities are necessary to fully embrace the healing power of animals. [Extracted from the article]
