Abstract

The article discusses the concept of trans language activism (TLA) and its role in achieving sociolinguistic justice for trans communities. The author argues that TLA should not only challenge misogyny, heteronormativity, and transphobia, but also address other systems of oppression such as ableism, capitalism, colonialism, fatphobia, HIV status, imperialism, incarceration, Islamophobia, poverty, racism, sexism, Survivorship, and xenophobia. The article emphasizes the importance of creating safe spaces for language play and collective discussion, as well as the need for political education to connect forms of oppression across different identities and geographies. The concept of euphoric transmutation is introduced as a strategy for liberation through language, involving the play, juxtaposition, innovation, and resignification of lexicon to challenge hegemonic power. The article also proposes the creation of a multilingual database to compare and name systems of oppression, promoting linguistic materialism and self-determination. Overall, the article advocates for TLA to center the joyful self-determination of oppressed people and promote linguistic innovation for collective liberation. [Extracted from the article]
