Abstract

This article presents the application/development of an Educational Product, named 'Educating for Citizenship: Contextualized Activities for Teaching Statistics in Elementary School,' based on Critical Mathematical Education with the aim of teaching Statistics content to 9th-grade students. This Educational Product resulted from the research titled 'Teaching Statistics in Elementary School: Interdisciplinary contributions involving critical mathematical education and stroke,' conducted within the scope of the Professional Master's Program in Teaching Sciences, Mathematics, and Technologies at the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC). The approach used Investigation Scenarios with the theme of Stroke (CVA) to promote practical understanding of statistical concepts. The study included activities over eight sessions, focusing on various statistical aspects such as interpretation of graphs, probability calculation, data analysis, and measures of central tendency. Students were encouraged to question and interpret real data, enhancing their statistical skills and critical understanding. The results indicate that this innovative approach stimulated student engagement, contributing to a deeper and critical understanding of Mathematics, especially in analyzing real-world problems like strokes.
