Medyczne zastosowanie preparatów Ginkgo biloba – wskazania, zagrożenia i regulacje.

Ginkgo biloba is a tree species originally inhabiting eastern China. It has been used in traditional medicine in Asian countries for centuries. Due to the currently growing popularity of preparations containing active substances of G. biloba, used mainly to improve cognitive functions, the significance of the positive and negative effects of the use of these medical products should be considered. This paper reviews literature on the effects of G. biloba on human body. Particular attention was paid to possible side effects and interactions between preparations containing G. biloba and other drugs. The discussion part touched upon aspects of the pharmaceutical market and differences between individual countries in the context of indications and guidelines for the use of G. biloba preparations.
