Abstract
- Junjie Su's book, "Intangible Cultural Heritage and Tourism in China: A Critical Approach," examines the recognition and production of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in the context of tourism development in China, with a focus on the case study of Lijiang. The book analyzes various perspectives, including those of government officials, experts, and local practitioners, to understand the complex meanings of ICH. It also explores the tensions between heritage preservation and tourism commodification. While the book provides valuable empirical data, it could benefit from updates on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and a stronger theoretical framework. Overall, it contributes to the understanding of China's cultural transformation and the politicization of cultural heritage. [Extracted from the article]
