Abstract
- Bloomsbury Publishing has acquired the academic publishing business of Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group for $83 million, significantly expanding its academic operation in North America. The deal will nearly double Bloomsbury's total number of academic titles to approximately 97,000 and is expected to increase its annual U.S. revenue to around $300 million. The acquisition does not include Rowman & Littlefield's trade arm, Globe Pequot, except for the Applause and Backbeat imprints. Pushkin Press, a London publisher specializing in translated literature, has acquired Steerforth Press and its sister company, Hanover Publisher Services. The two companies will be merged into Steerforth Press and Services, with Chip Fleischer remaining as a senior editor. The Romance Writers of America (RWA) has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing debts of approximately $3 million to hotels and $74,500 to other creditors. RWA's membership has declined from 10,000 members prior to 2019 to about 2,000 due to controversies surrounding racism and diversity issues. [Extracted from the article]
