Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the role of white-rot fungus extracellular polysaccharides in the biogenesis of iron (hydrogen) oxides. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to study the characteristics of iron (hydrogen) oxides regulated by the extracellular polysaccharide of white-rot fungus under different polysaccharide concentrations, different aging time, different initial concentrations of Fe3+, different pH values of mineralization system and different aging temperature. The crystal composition and transformation between different phases of iron (hydrogen) oxides biomineralized by white-rot fungus under different conditions were investigated. The results showes that the nucleation of iron (hydrogen) oxides in polysaccharides is promoted by increasing the content of polysaccharides, and the crystal type and degree of iron (hydrogen) oxides changed during aging. The increase of the initial concentration of Fe3+ helped to improve the stability of the hydroxyl binding state of iron (hydrogen) oxides. The formation of α-FeOOH is favorable under acidic condition, while the formation of α-Fe2O3 is favorable under alkaline condition. An appropriate increase in temperature is beneficial to the improvement of Fe—O crystallinity, and a further increase in temperature favored the conversion of iron (hydrogen) oxides into a more stable phase. Those results can provide references for revealing the biological formation process of iron (hydrogen) oxides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
