Abstract

Complex dielectric measurements were performed in 1-nitropropane (NTP) and DMSO mixtures at various concentrations in the frequency range of 10 MHz to 50 GHz using time domain reflectometry technique. The excess inverse relaxation time values were found to be negative, indicating that the dipoles rotated more slowly. Alenka Luzar's hydrogen-bonded theory is used to calculate theoretical estimates of the static dielectric constant. The variations in dielectric parameters such as dielectric constant, relaxation time, Kirkwood correlation factor and excess properties observed in the study confirm the existence of intermolecular interactions within the NTP-DMSO mixtures.
