Abstract
- The article discusses the management of heat-related illness and injury in the ICU, with a focus on gastrointestinal injury. The authors acknowledge the need for more studies on the gastrointestinal manifestations of heatstroke, as most of the available data come from retrospective observational studies or small case series. They highlight the reduction in splanchnic blood flow, increased intestinal permeability, and endotoxin leakage as potential complications of heatstroke. The article emphasizes the importance of prompt recognition and treatment of heatstroke symptoms in critically ill patients. [Extracted from the article]
