Abstract
- The article discusses the importance of adhering to standardized nomenclature in the field of extracorporeal life support (ECLS), specifically focusing on the venopulmonary extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) mode. The authors highlight the need for consistent terminology and abbreviations to improve communication and reduce ambiguity in scientific publications. They argue that the adoption of standardized nomenclature has been slow and call for journals to promote the use of the nomenclature developed by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). The authors acknowledge their oversight in using inconsistent terminology in their own article and express agreement with the need for adherence to standardized nomenclature.
