Abstract

This document provides information on the diagnosis and management of transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR), a commonly overlooked cause of heart failure in older patients. It explains that the misfolding of a protein called transthyretin leads to the accumulation of insoluble fibrils in various organs, including the heart. The article emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between different types of amyloidosis for accurate diagnosis and management. It highlights the use of a 12-lead ECG and technetium 99m bone scintigraphy in detecting and confirming the diagnosis of ATTR. The article also discusses the development of novel therapies for ATTR and the importance of early diagnosis and referral to specialized clinics for appropriate management.
