Abstract

Acrylic resin is a widely utilized material for dentures. It is essential to maintain the cleanliness of acrylic dentures to prevent damage to the surrounding oral tissues. The degree of denture cleanliness is closely tied to the hygiene practices of the wearer. This study seeks to establish a correlation between the hygiene of acrylic dentures and the hygiene behaviors of the individuals wearing them. This research adopts an observational analytic approach. A total of 27 acrylic dentures from patients at UMY Dental Hospital, meeting specific criteria, were evaluated for their cleanliness using the Denture Cleanliness Index (DCI). The hygiene behaviors of denture wearers were assessed based on their knowledge of denture hygiene, as determined by a questionnaire. Data were statistically analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results revealed that 14.8% of the acrylic dentures were categorized as 'very clean,' 11.1% as 'poor,' while the remainder fell under the 'moderately clean' category. The study found that 81.1% of the respondents exhibited a moderate to high level of knowledge regarding denture hygiene. Spearman's correlation test demonstrated a significant relationship between denture cleanliness and the hygiene behavior of the wearers (p<0.05), with a correlation coefficient of 0.583. In conclusion, this study indicates that the cleanliness of acrylic dentures in patients at UMY Dental Hospital is associated with the hygiene behavior of the denture wearers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
