Abstract

Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG) offers an alternative pathway for generating leads to aid in the resolution of forensic casework. The ForenSeq® Kintelligence kit is the first commercial panel designed specifically for FIGG applications. In this study, the Kintelligence Kit was compared to the Infinium Global Screening Array-24 Kit on the basis of kinship prediction accuracy between members from a known family group. While both workflows identified kinship links between the primary donor and their family members, the kinship prediction values were not always accurate. Overall, the study demonstrated the potential of FIGG workflows to generate forensic intelligence, but also highlighted the requirement to report links with an appropriate level of caution due to potential discrepancy between the predicted and actual kinship relationship.
